Temperature Continuum-Which SeV is the warmest
A customer, Kynan Dent, came up with a great idea. I wanted to get your collective feedback.
Below is a list in order of comfort by warmth, with the most suitable for hot weather shown first. We are thinking of creating a chart on the website similar to attached. Let me know if you think this is a good idea.Travel Shorts, UCP | Travel Pants | HCP | Flex Cargo
With regard to feedback (on both the site and the clothing), I have a
few thoughts: Site related stuff:
- It's hard to get an idea from the website of the warmth continuum
for the jackets. It would be really nice to have a 'Comfortable
Temperature Range' to the [DETAILS] tab. I understand that this is a
very objective statement to make but at very least it would go a long
way toward making it obvious which jackets are similar and which are
more suited to warm or cool weather. I had a lot of trouble
understanding that, despite the removable sleeves and name similarity
to a lighter jacket, the Evolution is actually intended for similar
situations as the Quantum (maybe I'm just stupid though).
If you wanted to get a little more fancy, having a graphic or blob of
text appear at the top of the page when [View All] is selected from
the menu that displayed a little graph of cold<->hot with clickable
images of all of the clothing from the light-weight vest/travel shorts
on the left up to the Quantum/hidden cargo pants on the right would be
nice (the attached image "scottevest_graph.jpg" is my horrendous
attempt at mocking up what I'm talking about).
If you wanted to get REALLY fancy, having a page that allows you to
select "What I'm looking for in a jacket" (ie temperature range,
situation, number of pockets, water-repellency, etc) and then
presented you with a selection of garments most likely to meet your
needs would be awesome. For an example of something along these lines,
have a look at http://www.anythingbutipod.com/compare/search. - Since most people are going to be purchasing this clothing without
ever having actually touched it, I think it's very important to
provide as much *accurate* information as possible about the products
and, since it's such a big part of this clothing, a lot of detail
about the specific pockets on each garment. I suspect that there's an
intention to make more of the 360 degree tour/demo's in the very near
future (I certainly hope so!) but I would like to caution you about
going too overboard with the graphics. Whilst they're fine for me, as
a sighted internet user, I work with several sight-impaired
friends/colleagues (in the IT world) to whom these images/videos are
unlikely to be helpful and who furthermore can barely get any useful
information out of the website at all (try viewing the site with
something like WebbIE).
Accessibility aside, at the moment a lot of the available information
is extremely generic and, in the case of the Ultimate Cargo Pants,
actually incorrect! I am very interested in this product in particular
(in fact I just broke down and ordered a pair) but was extremely
underwhelmed by the information that is currently available on the
website describing this item. I find the [Key Features] tab to be
quite useless in assisting a purchase decision (I don't see any reason
that information couldn't be included on the [Details] tab) and I'd
really like to see the [Full Description] tab actually include the
current information and a run-down of each pocket that the garment
contains along with a location and, preferably, with a photo of that
pocket. This would be covered for the most part by the 360 degree
tours "View All Pockets" function (although having a text version
accessible would definitely be a bonus). The images that are available
right now just don't provide enough information to make an informed
decision (and the X-ray view of the Ultimate Cargo Pants is just a
renamed version of the Hidden Cargo Pants and is missing, at very
least, the "Hidden Airplane Pocket"). I had a similar issue trying to
work out the differences between the Travel Vest and the Essentail
Travel Jacket, specifically trying to nail down which pockets had been
removed (I think I worked out that it had to be the Napoleons plus one
PIP). - A minor thing: When you click on the colorchips when viewing the
clothing items, it would be nice if the "Product_Code" select box
would pre-populate Non-site related stuff:
- What's up with the colour selection!!! Can you please add black to
the rest of the pant/short selection? I spend a lot of time crawling
under things running cable or on my knees in server rooms and I fear
that sand-colour of the Ultimate Cargo Pants will not remain
sand-coloured for long! - I should probably wait until I receive that pants before making this
comment but since I've got everything else written down here: the
magnets are cool (I'm really liking them on my Hidden Cargo Pants) but
I think that the pockets on the Ultimate Cargo Pants should include
some form of positive fastener for the pouch pockets (ie a zip,
buttons or hook and loop tape). There's nothing worse than having
fully loaded pockets and having everything tip out when you swing
upside down. - Starting to get a little esoteric now: Built-in solar panels, or a
couple of discrete external loops from which to hang something like a
Solio would be really cool, especially if they were anchored to the
weight distribution endoskeleton and thus didn't deform the jacket. Thanks very much for making this range of clothing available! Cheers,
Kynan
